    Overview

    France issues two main visa categories:
    • Schengen Type C — short stays up to 90 days in any 180 (tourism, family, short business).
    • Long-Stay Visa (VLS-TS / National D) — stays over 90 days (study, work, family, long-stay visitor). After arrival, most long-stay holders validate the VLS-TS online and then, if required, obtain a residence permit. For many students, Campus France steps apply before the visa.
